May 17th – Norwegian Constitution Day
17th of May is the day when every Norwegian is out in the streets celebrating the Norwegian constitutions. This tradition is very nice and I believe visitors from other countries would find it fascinating. All the schools are marching and the kids are waving their flags shouting hooray hooray! Many schools have their own marching … Continue reading
More from the hometown springtime experience
I’ll start this one where I left the last blog post. The celebration of the work of Norwegian artist Pushwagner is also visible on the south side of the Oslo central station at the airport train terminal. I find it fascinating how they can spend the money and the effort to set the whole thing … Continue reading
Springtime in Oslo
I’m back from my trip to the US and the UAE for a couple of weeks and I still have my new camera. I’ve been snapping a few shots here and there that I believe are representative for the springtime feelings in my home town Oslo. The following quote is taken from the Wikipedia description … Continue reading
Dubai
I’ll start by showing the view from my apartment at the Arjaan Hotel. I found it interesting to track the views from all the rooms on this trip and I’ll stick to it for Dubai as well. I booked the hotel in Dubai through Hotels.com. The room was in other words pre-paid. My confirmation said … Continue reading
Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi
Before I left Abu Dhabi I was able to get a few shots from The Sheikh Zayed Mosque. It’s the largest mosque in UAE and the only one open for tourists. The building is absolutely huge and very beautiful. Here’re some of my favourite shots:
Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is about an hour and a half from Dubai airport by car. It is the capitol of The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the seat of government for UAE. The conference had booked me a room at The Armed Forces Officers Club some distance from the centre of Abu Dhabi. It’s exactly what … Continue reading
Final remarks from Charlottesville …
Before I left beautiful and charming Charlottesville I participated in the tourist tour of Monticello. Monticello was the home of Thomas Jefferson. He was the third President of the United States and the principal authors of the Declaration of Independence. I found both the house and the story about the man very interesting. Sadly, we … Continue reading
Historic Charlottesville
I arrived in Charlottesville, Virgina a couple of days ago. The cold weather in New York kept me in bed with a violent cold the first couple of days … 🙁 Eventually I was able to pick up my camera though and go for a walk in this beautiful town. The part I didn’t visit … Continue reading
Springtime in The Big Apple …
Why is New York called The Big Apple anyway? Wikipedia have the answer 🙂 I had breakfast this morning in a charming little place called The Muffin Place on Upper West Side. Sesame seeds bagel with jam was simple but very tasty. Sitting enjoying my bagel, my eyes wandered around and fell upon this poster … Continue reading
Shopping …
Today I went shopping. This in itself is interesting because I basically hate it. When I planned this trip I considered the exchange rate and that I actually needed some new clothes. This and a few other things made the decision pretty easy. One of my colleagues were recently in New York and she recommended … Continue reading
